TURP is a standard treatment method for Benign Hypertrophy of Prostate (BPH). In this surgery a thin metal tube containing a light, camera and loop of wire, called resectoscope, is passed along urethra until it reaches prostate. The loop of wire is then heated with an electric current and used to cut away the extra parts of prostate. These parts are entered into the bladder. Then a catheter is inserted to the urethra to pump fluid into the bladder and flush away the pieces of prostate that have been removed. In this method, the surgery is possible to do with any size and volume of the prostate.
