No special preparations are necessary for echocardiography. You're just asked to take off your upper cloths. Then the physician rubs a gel to facilitate sound waves transmission. The physician places a probe on your chest and heart and will ask you to lie down in different positions and for a clearer image you may be asked stop breathing for a short time. The echocardiography will take 45 minutes to 1 hour.
